Method used to calculate change in storage
Zone 7 uses two methods for calculating groundwater storage. The Groundwater Elevation (GWE) method uses groundwater level data and storage coefficients for nodes originally developed by DWR in 1974 to estimate the total volume of water in the Basin. The Hydrologic Inventory (HI) method, also known as the Water Budget, involves an accounting of all inflows and outflows and derivation of the change in storage as the residual of the water budget equation. Storage volumes from the two methods are averaged to quantify the total storage of the Basin.
