Pursuant to California Water Code Section 10723.8 of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA), the City of Arroyo Grande provides this notice to the Department of Water Resources of its decision and intent to become a Single-Agency Groundwater Sustainability Agency (GSA) and to undertake sustainable groundwater management in a portion of the Santa Maria Groundwater Basin. The City of Arroyo Grande is a water service provider with land use authority within a portion of the Santa Maria Groundwater Basin (SMGB), referred to as the City of Arroyo Grande GSA area. The City of Arroyo Grande's water supply includes groundwater from the SMGB and the Pismo Formation, which is separate from the SMGB, and local surface water from Lopez Reservoir.

The City of Arroyo Grande GSA area boundary and service area boundary are different. A portion of the City of Arroyo Grande service area lies within the adjudicated portion of the Santa Maria Groundwater Basin (Adjudicated ID A29) and a portion lies outside the adjudicated boundary. It is the intent of the City of Arroyo Grande GSA to manage the portion of the SMGB as defined by DWR bulletin 118 that lies outside the A29 Adjudicated area and within the City's service area boundary. The City of Arroyo Grande has not adopted any new bylaws, ordinances, or authorities for the governance of the GSA. The City of Arroyo Grande will notify DWR if this status changes.
