Back calculated from remotely sensed satellite ETc data and irrigation efficiency estimates base on CDWR land use maps or field surveys
ETc data been proven to have approximately 90% accurrate based on pilot studies performed within the LTRID. Irrigation efficiencies are subject to error being it is derived from outdated 2016 CDWR land use data and correlated to common irrigations methods for any given crop.

E Change in Storage

Method used to calculate change in storage

uses Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping to spatially quantify gross groundwater storage volume as a function of specific yield and based, in part, on comparison of spring 2019 and spring 2020 groundwater contour maps developed from different data sets. A more limited set of wells with groundwater elevation data was available for the Fall 2019 contour map relative to the Fall 2020 map. The magnitude of the estimate of storage change should be evaluated in the context of the uncertainty in these data sets. As consistent monitoring data will be available year to year in the future, it is anticipated that a more representative and, thus, more accurate storage change estimates will be available in future reports.
