4. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF POTENTIAL BASIN BOUNDARY MODIFICATION REQUEST
  • In many cases, subbasin and county boundaries are defined by rivers or streams. Since rivers are an ever-changing boundary as they meander and migrate over time, referencing subbasin boundaries along the river has created unanticipated anomalies in some places. Shifting the emphasis of the boundary definition from being the river, to being the county line provides more stability for SGMA planning and effective management. Butte County is coordinating with neighboring GSAs in subbasins bounded by the Sacramento River where the River also serves as a county boundary between Tehama and Butte Counties and Butte and Glenn Counties. Affected subbasins include the Corning, Colusa, Vina, and West Butte subbasins. In these areas, the subbasin boundary along the Sacramento River of Vina and West Butte will be slightly modified to align with existing county boundaries in this reach. This will address inconsistencies in the current mapping (existing shapefiles), but does not result in a material change to the current basin boundary along the Sacramento River.
